Allure Multimedia Professional Commercial Photographer * Q: ISO vs Strobes vs Monolights

Will higher usable ISO create a resurgence of small Strobes vs Monolights?

As an event and  commercial photographer base in West Palm Beach, FL, I’m continuously replacing old gear with new to increase productivity. Well, yesterday I began searching for a new set of studio strobes as ours are… let’s just say… getting at bit long in the tooth!

Jumped head first into researching which of today’s monolights was not only high quality but also were the best bang for the buck. While reading reviews and of course asking friends and fellow professional photographers, @trevorcurrent, @photojack, @lensflare35, @newmediaphoto, just to name a few, on Twitter — my second home. Quickly it became apparent that this cross section of well-recognized Pros would have answers as diverse as the style of photography they worked in. From Alien Bee to ProFoto and everything in between!

Was I asking the right questions or was there something else that I should be focusing on?

After speaking with Trevor Current of currentphotographer.com , fellow photographer and Podcaster; his answer struck a chord: “…since I shoot mainly small product photography I only need small lights and simply use a couple of 25 watt Lowel Ego compact color balanced fluorescents.”

Now, having allot of experience as professional commercial photographer I immediately questioned him as to how the heck was he shooting with such a small lighting setup?

He simply explained “… I’m shooting around f20 at ISO 2,000 with my 5DmkII and the images look great with very little noise!”

His respond caused an epiphany of sorts and a few new question pop into mind:

Q: As the “useable” camera ISO migrates north will more professionals migrate away from the heavier, less portable and much more expensive monolights in preference of smaller less powerful portable strobes?

and even more importantly…

Q: Will expensive high-powered studio strobe pricing decrease as usable ISO increases?

If you’re a commercial photographer or simply into photography for that matter, we want to hear from you! Thanks for taking the time to contribute!

Professional Photography Leather Flush Mount Album Wedding Boudoir Modeling & more

Professional Photography Leather Flush Mount Album

Destination Weddings, Boudoir (Classy & Sensual), Modeling & more

I’ve been asked so many times: “What Exactly Does a Custom Designed Leather Flush Mount Album Look Like?”. Well, here you go! After some thought on the topic and knowing the old days of sitting with a client showing book after book are, for the most part history, I’ve decided to bring the process closer to the digital age by allow past, present and future client to experience without having to be here in studio.

I simply took one of our high-end 12 x 12, that’s 12″ by 24″ when open, leather flush mount albums and page by page turned through it. You’ll quickly notice the pages are very think 3mm, the image color and resolution is absolutely stellar and the binding is just perfect! Keep in mind, layout and design is complete personal and customized specific to each client’s vision, need or desire.

This specific album is of a South Florida Palm Beach Destination Wedding which we coved a few months back.

From Boudoir Albums, Wedding Albums, Model Portfolios to Professional Product Advertising Albums and more, we will not only shoot the high-end images but custom create the perfect album for you!

Take a moment to view the video and possible, drop us a comment.

Professional Boudoir Photography West Palm Beach South Florida Classy Glamorous Fine Art

Professional Boudoir Photography … Classy Not Trashy * South Florida

Professional Boudoir Photography West Palm Beach South Florida Classy Glamorous Fine Art & Bridal Boudoir

Lisa Minns wrote a fabulous article about my Classy Not Trashy Professional Boudoir Photography here in West Palm Beach South Florida which was featured on page 24 of this months November 2009 “the Parklander” Magazine; previously interviewed by the TodayShow February 2008 Valentines Day.

As for myself, Professional Photographer and wife, Fabiola, Licensed Cosmetologist, it was an absolute honor to be recognized throughout the country from the Today Show and now locally within the amazing Parklander Magazine for this life changing form of photography called Boudoir. It is my goal to not only make beautiful images but to impress positively on every individual whom I photograph. I’m humbled by the amazing stories that I hear from past clients on how we had effected their over-all view of themselves and empowered them to move forward fearlessly and with confidence.

Lisa Minns – The Parklander Noverber 2009:

In the age of flash and technology, it’s become increasingly hard to buy a gift for that special someone that will just blow him away. Clothes? Boring. Watches? Been done. Fancy dinner? Very nice, but only if your man enjoys fine dining. Not everyone does, so that can be risky. Vacations? Fabulous, but they can be pricey and once they are over, all you are left with are memories and pictures. Pictures? Now we are onto something! Why not have some boudoir photos taken of yourself and give them to your special man? Seriously! Pictures last forever and trust me – no man is going to turn down beautiful pictures of his woman. From the sensual feminine photographic period of the pinup and Bettie page to the hot cover styles of magazines like Maxim, this fact has been proven time and time again. of course, now the question is … where for I go for something like this? Glamour photo companies certainly don’t advertise this service. Is it weird to go have sexy shots taken of yourself? No way, it’s not weird! As for where to go, there are a number of photographers who specialize in this sort of thing. One of the best places in South Florida for classy boudoir photos is Allure Multimedia. Photographer Joseph Cristina can take you to a side of yourself you never believed existed.

Taking boudoir shots just kind of happened for Joseph. his wife being an accomplished licensed cosmetologist and he being a professional photographer, they had worked together on many projects from weddings to magazine cover shots. After seeing the trashy way some photographers were portraying women while calling it boudoir, they felt compelled to transcend the negativity and bring the genre back by empowering women with their work. Boudoir Photography is a style of imagery that has its roots in the early 1900s and has re-emerged within the last few years stronger than ever.

You are probably wondering about the process. First thing to stress is that the client’s comfort is the most important thing to Joseph and Fabiola. A client has the option of having her shoot at the studio, in her home or at a location she has chosen. She also gets to choose the lingerie, shoes, boas, gloves and other accessories that she wants to wear to bring out her personality and vision of the pictures. You name it … they are your pictures. Once a client arrives at the location, it is all about comfort and style. First stop is hair and make-up with Fabiola. The is when the transformation from everyday women to glamor starlet begins. You think that sounds overly dramatic, but I’m not kidding on this one. Professional stylized hair and makeup application, wardrobe styling, music and aroma; this is where Fabiola’s artistry shines. While this is going on, Joseph is already at work getting to know the client, learning her personality a bit and using his artistic eye to explore the hundreds of different angles in search of the most flattering. Once hair and make-up are complete, Fabiola will hand the client off to Joseph for the photography to begin. Shot after shot, he talks his client through poses, smiles and angles, all while controlling light to emphasize the positive and diminish the negative. Everyone has a “good side” or, to be exact, a “good angle”. Joseph believes it is his obligation to find it and capture it. Almost everyone is nervous in the beginning of the session, but as the shots will show, as the session goes on, the nerves diminish. It is all part of what Joseph and Fabiola do. One of the most important requirements for something like this is a photographer you can trust and feel comfortable with.

When the session is over, Joseph’s work has only begun. He will go over each proof, find the winning poses, and then begin the discreet retouching process. From evening out skin tones, removing blemishes, getting rid of cellulite, massaging other flaws into non-existence to emphasizing the poitives, he will do it. Yes, I do that we are all beautiful just as we are, but seriously, which one of us doesn’t want something retouched in a picture? Although retouching is applied on most images, it is done tastefull and within reason. Having worked on magazine cover shots, plus model and actor portfolios over the years, Joseph is known to retouch much more discreetly then most. His goal is to depict a woman in her most flattering light, while allowing her inner beauty to shine.

In February 2008, The Today Show profiled Joseph and Fabiola. Laura T. Coffey contacted him regarding his style of boudoir photography. During the interview, they spoke about how difficult it is to find boudoir photographic work on the Internet that did not cross the line into simply being pornographic at best. Their wonderful conversation was published on the shows website. Again … classy, not trashy.

Trust me, this is a photo shoot like no other you have ever experienced. I’ve had a photo session with Joseph and had my hair and make-up done by Fabiola. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what that may have been for or what type of photographs they were. What I will tell you was that it was definitely a great experience and the photographs were all so beautiful, it took me almost two week to decide which proofs to have printed.

Bottom line: From the subtle look of accomplishment, stories of empowerment and deep appreciation of the work, I’m truly blessed to be able to too do what I love while touching people on a daily bases.

Giving back to the community One Click At A Time – Professional Photographer Joseph Cristina

Giving back to the community One Click At A Time

— You WILL make a difference

The inspiration for this entry was from a Tweet made by Rosh Sillars @newmediaphotographer on Twitter while speaking at Photo Plus Expo : “Bottom line you get what you give” as well as recently covering, as I have in past years, the Chocolate Festival benefiting the Children’s Craniofacial Association [http://www.ccakids.com]. This wonderful organization assists children with abnormality of the face and/or the head. These disfigurements can be brought about by birth defect, disease or trauma.

Over the years, many non-profit organizations have come to me looking for event coverage; not as a step and repeat or press photographer but as one whom can capture their gala event as it happens and in a light that encourages others to participate in the future.

From the American Heart Association, Jewish Family & Children Services, American Cancer Society & and many many others; I have always made it a point to donate my services to at least 1 charity per month at no charge, a mere stipend or at a reduced rate to simply give back to the local community.

This simple act has not only helped 10’s of thousands directly and indirectly but as a unforeseen side effect, of sorts, has catapulted my career.

We have all heard the sayings that go something like “Charity Begins In The Home” and “Give When Your Own Cup Is Full” … but honestly … I completely disagree with both of these premises.
