Steampunk Photo Shoot
Professional Fashion / Period Photography

Hey everyone… It’s been kinda crazy over the last few months from co-hosting Digital Photography Cafe too shooting a ton of projects. From Music Album Photography and Design to Fashion Photography and everything in between, I will be sharing some of the latest images in up and coming entries.

For this week, myself and Trevor Current, co-host of Digital Photography Cafe, spoke about Creativity, it’s importance and how to find it if you’ve lost it! :-D If you haven’t had a chance to listen in, please take a moment to do so. Episode 29

This week a wonderful lady contact us regarding shooting an image for a book author Scott Westerfeld contest in the genre of SteamPunk. If you don’t know what Steampunk is, simply visualize a cross between Victorian & Sci-fi or H. G. Wells / Jules Verne work. Honestly, I knew just about nothing about it until doing this shoot and now think it’s great and credit it to getting my creative juices flowing once again.

Photograph Like the Masters How to take better photos?     Ok folks. Recently I was listening to one of the many podcasts that I frequent and heard something very strange. One of the hosts indicated that many people convert images to black and white as a way of fix or cover-up poor quality photos. [...]

Classy Boudoir Photography Behind The Scenes TV Segment

NBC 6 / Telemundo 51 Miami

Previously we were interviewed by The TodayShow for what I call my “Classy Not Trashy” Boudoir Photography. Just recently we were approached by a producer from NBC 6 / Telemundo 51 Miami to do a full segment regarding this specific form of photography.

Boudoir Photography should force the photographer to create images that flatter their client and do so in a classy manor but over the years I saw so many “boudoir photos” that in my mind did the contrary. I made it my goal to bring the Classy back to Boudoir Photography and it’s my hope this thought can be seen within my boudoir photographs.

Like all other forms of portraiture, Boudoir Photography does allow for surreal themes, playfulness and artistry with styling seen within the pages of todays top fashion magazines.

With a strong collaboration between The Client, My Beautiful Wife, Fabiola, Licensed Cosmetologist / Hair & Makeup Artist and myself professional photographer we create images that are truly timeless.

I’ve been told by clients that our sensual photography sessions are life transforming events and many women have returned years later for followup sessions as a way to document their life’s journey of self discovery!

We are located in Sunny South Florida Palm Beach County but travel the country and even worldwide sharing our gifts.

From Fine Art, Boudoir, Modeling and Commercial Photography project, I would like to welcome all to contact me for more information. Enjoy the segment!

Run & Gun was my theme – Unlike many, I decided to detach this $27,000 camera kit from it’s umbilical cord and shot untethered with high speed UDMA SanDisk 16gb & 32gb Memory Cards.

At $1,000/hr for location costs, it was both Awe-Inspiring & Exhilarating at the same time! I can not say enough about the team of 11 creatives whom collaborated on this project to make it happen! Thank you all!

This video is simply a fast paced “Run & Gun” depiction of the Fashion Shoot testing the Hasselblad H4D-40 Medium Format Digital Camera. I hope you enjoy it.

As a fashion photographer that absolutely loves working with fashion designers, this gig was a dream. While, being given the opportunity to put the Hasselblad H4D-40 medium format 40 megapixel digital camera through it’s paces in a non-traditional “Run and Gun Style”, “Real World”, “On Location” high fashion photography photo shoot was like giving a kid the keys to a candy store; I’m still on a sensor high! This entire shoot would shot with the Hassy and a back Canon 5DmkII as a control unit!

Run & Gun was my theme – Unlike many, I decided to detach this $20,000-$30,000 camera kit from it’s umbilical cord and shot untethered with high speed UDMA SanDisk 16gb & 32gb Memory Cards.

So …

NO Cables

NO Pro Lighting (580ex II’s + Pocket Wizards Only)

= Light Weight, Mobile & Tons of Fun!

A full review on my experience with this camera will be soon coming by Press Agent Trevor Current of CurrentPhotographer.com whom flew down to Sunny Miami Florida just to cover this location fashion shoot. Stay Tuned!

How to pick an Actor Headshot or Modeling Headshot Photographer?

How to pick an Actor Headshot or Modeling Headshot Photographer?

How to pick an Actor Headshot or Modeling Headshot Photographer?

HINT: ALL ASPIRING MODELS & ACTORS MUST KNOW

When commissioning a photographer, take the time to look at their portfolio, discuss with them exactly what you or the agency requires and for the Love of God, do your due diligence before wasting your money.
If you think (man or woman) you can do your own hair & makeup; SLAP YOURSELF once for being ignorant and twice for being so damn cheap! (Did I say that?… YES! YES I DID…) A hair & makeup artist on location during your session will not only provide you with a better photographic appearance but will also provide different hair do’s and fashion styling which ultimately will benefit you by providing a greater number of looks to proof through once your session is over.

Actor Headshot South Florida Acting Headshots Photographer

This is a update to the post entitled Actor Actor Headshots & Becoming An Actor; Hope this helps!

Well after going though many shots, LA Actor Benjamin James selected this image to represent himself and as a branding portrait. As discussed, the image MUST

Must depict the actor in his or her best light * You just gotta look good, plain and simple; nothing highbrow here!
Must be Timely * Should appeal to “today’s” Agencies / Movie & TV Producers * Always be hip & in fashion * NEVER look dated!
Must not “LOOK” heavily retouched or altered * How many of you have seen “modeling photos” that look like plastic dolls?
Must have an eclectic essence or mass appeal * You don’t want to ever be pigeonholed as an actor!
Must brand YOU as to who you are or who you aspire to be * Read my Branding Article to learn more about this concept
Once again, becoming an actor is not easy but with strong collateral materials you can reach for the stars.

In an up an coming article I will be explaining what an Actor Portfolio so encompass and why you should have one when courting an acting agencies.

Destination Wedding Photography South Florida Boca Raton at Boca Resort & Spa

From Wedding Photography, Wedding Cinematography, Bridal Hair & Makeup Styling; last weeks wedding was absolutely stellar to say the least! Located at the beautiful Boca Raton Resort & Spa, a stunning venue for picture perfect South Florida destination weddings in East Boca Raton South Florida on the gorgeous inter-coastal waterway.

Having a background in magazine photography and as a Fashion and Portrait Photographer with an eye for the fine arts; it’s my goal to provide the bride & groom with photographs which look ready to be published within a bridal magazine, wall portrait or even seen hung in an art gallery. As they say, the devils’ in the details and the details are a major part of my style of wedding photography. I include my signature artistic flare while providing a fun easy going attitude capturing the day as it unfolds and not forcing images which would later look unnatural.

The Creating of an Image & Professional Branding of a Company

I’m publishing this short entry as a follow up to my previous article entitled ” Professional Branding Portraiture Photography – Ditch the 80’s Real Estate Head Shot “. Let me beginning by giving you some background: A few weeks back the studio receives contact from a brand new company which was in need of a “Look”, a “Brand”, or “Image” to allow their clients to recognize them immediately when seeing their promotional materials.

This strong association between the Company and the Brand is one of the most critical factors when starting a new venture and is so often over looked..

The Role of a Professional Modeling Portfolio Photographer

The Role of a Professional Modeling Portfolio Photographer

The Role of a Professional Modeling Portfolio Photographer

Recently I had the absolute pleasure to work with a great model with tons of spark and a good head on her shoulders. Above you can see a few of the snaps made during this studio session.

Modeling Portfolio Photography, like Head Shots or Comp Cards must depict the client in their most SALABLE light. The difference between the Portofolio, Head shots and Comp Cards is simply the number of photographs a model has to use to “get the job”, so to speak.

An easy way to look at this is simply —- The Head Shot is your Business Card; The Comp Card is your Invitation to get in the door; while your Portfolio is the eclectic representation of YOU as a model that will open the greatest number of doors and ultimately “seal the deal” with the agency or art director.

A professional photographer should not only focused on making stunning images but creating an inherent value to the product, service or client photographed.

Professional Boudoir Photography … Classy Not Trashy * South Florida

Lisa Minns wrote a fabulous article about my Classy Not Trashy Professional Boudoir Photography here in West Palm Beach South Florida which was featured on page 24 of this months November 2009 “the Parklander” Magazine; previously interviewed by the TodayShow February 2008 Valentines Day.

As for myself, Professional Photographer and wife, Fabiola, Licensed Cosmetologist, it was an absolute honor to be recognized throughout the country from the Today Show and now locally within the amazing Parklander Magazine for this life changing form of photography called Boudoir. It is my goal to not only make beautiful images but to impress positively on every individual whom I photograph. I’m humbled by the amazing stories that I hear from past clients on how we had effected their over-all view of themselves and empowered them to move forward fearlessly and with confidence.

Why Do Today’s Photographers Fear The Shadows? West Palm Beach Professional Photographer

Do Today’s Photographers Fear The Shadows?

Granted know one wants a BLACK SHADOW on one side of a person or object within every single Vertical Perspective Image but I think we’ve gone a bit over board now!

I believe to a certain degree, myself included, we have slowly become Shadow Phobic.

I recall like it was yesterday my first “decent” camera purchased while still in high school. It was a Minolta SRT-102 fully manual, metal frame, 35mm that could actually flash sync at a whooping 1/60th of a second! For 1974 technology, it was no slouch and allowed me to photograph solely in Black & White using many different types film while developing all my own work.

The wonderfully strange thing that occurred during this period was my ability to “ see” in black and white! I looked at images as groups of geometric shapes of light & dark and found myself using shadow to give skeleton to a frame and light to provide it with flesh.

Should a Professional Photographer Give Away Their Copyright?

Should a Professional Photographer Give Away Their Copyright?

Certain unique situations a client will call for the transfer of copyright / ownership of the photographers work. In these cases the professional is amply compensated, many times monetarily, for the sale of their copyright. I will cover these situations in a future discussion but for now; let’s look at the majority of commissioned photographic projects:

I hear this all the time … (voice of client)

I want ownership / copyright to all my photos
I want to be able to make my own prints
I want a CD or DVD with all original photos
DO YOU REALLY? … ARE YOU SURE? … NO NO.. ARE YOU REALLY SURE?

Let me ask you something:

Q: Would a photographer or any other creative that was truly passionate about the work they do for you, your organization, product or event, be inclined to give away ownership to their creative work?

Musician Album Cover Photographer & Designer

Musician Album Cover Photographer & Designer

Musician Album Cover Photographer & Designer West Palm Beach, FL

Well as a photographer for the better part of two decades, I have photographed many interesting people. One of my FAVORITE projects is to work on is a fellow artists vision / inspiration. Not being stifled, bond by so many rules and guidelines, allows my creative juices to flow! * I LOVE IT *

About a month ago, Samuel Gali, (musician, composer, pianist) approached me after searching for a professional musician style photographer that could not only give him the IMAGE that he was looking for but have the ability to complete his project from start to finish.

His project was a complete Press-Ready 6 panel DigiPak as seen in your local music store. This album cover project not only included a studio photo session but direct work with Layout, Design and Replicators requirements. Having magazine and advertising agency background doing paste-up, layout and front cover work, it’s by far my passion to create final production pieces!

I love photography but still consider myself a PHOTO-ARTIST more than a “Photographer”. I just love love love getting elbows deep in Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator and other instrumental packages to create final production pieces for my clients.

As a professional musician photographer whom has worked on instrumental albums, singer song writers albums as well as music producers promotional materials, I find myself very “in-tune” with the “artist”.

Their IMAGE is absolutely critical and the professional photographer they commission to capture it is as important as picking the right first song on their album! Artist realize that their IMAGE can be made or broke by a photograph; It’s that important.

During my sessions with artists, as a rule, I ask that an they bring a demo reel with them that can be played throughout the studio to give me a better feel for who they are. Let me just say, GALI’s ( IS ) an amazing, let me repeat AMAZING musician, composer & pianist,!! All I can say is; Wow! The sound that filled the studio was unbelievable!

Having been selected out of many Professional Photography & Design Studios to create his first (signature) CD /DVD combo DigiPak music album was an honor for me. Thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to your up and coming second album.

Look for GALI’s album to hit stores by the beginning of next year and his first release on itunes is coming very soon! If you like masterful piano with a Jazzy, Modern Sound, you’re gonna love his work!

Do I Need a Professional Photographer?

Do I Need a Professional Photographer?

The following was inspired by a Poll introduced by @photojack on Twitter. The question posed was a simple one with a not so simple answer:

What Word or Phrase would you use to best describe the Photography industry today?

My answer was simply “ IN FLUX “ as I believe more than ever, that the amateurs in the industry are being weeded out daily and the professional photographers, passionate about their profession, like cream, are quickly rising to the top.

The introduction of digital technology has brought into to the market many part-time “shooters” that are directly competing with the full-time professional photographers. No studio expense, cheap equipment, many times no backup cameras, lens, lighting and charge a fraction of what a true full-time professional has to charge to make a living, all while providing mediocre photography at best.

During this “ FLUX “ the number of projects that I take on per month that are “re-shoots “ for clients that chose to use one of these part-timers has quadrupled from 2007. Most ask for a reduction in my rates as they indicate they already spent “X dollars“ and are over budget… and I simply say … (well, I’ll let you fill this in later)

Back to the question at hand “Do I Need a Professional Photographer? “
