As a fashion photographer that absolutely loves working with fashion designers, this gig was a dream. While, being given the opportunity to put the Hasselblad H4D-40 medium format 40 megapixel digital camera through it’s paces in a non-traditional “Run and Gun Style”, “Real World”, “On Location” high fashion photography photo shoot was like giving a kid the keys to a candy store; I’m still on a sensor high! This entire shoot would shot with the Hassy and a back Canon 5DmkII as a control unit!
Run & Gun was my theme – Unlike many, I decided to detach this $20,000-$30,000 camera kit from it’s umbilical cord and shot untethered with high speed UDMA SanDisk 16gb & 32gb Memory Cards.

NO Pro Lighting (580ex II’s + Pocket Wizards Only)
= Light Weight, Mobile & Tons of Fun!

The shoot took place in sunny Miami, Florida at Shake-A-Leg Miami Aquatic Center and Marine Academy. You may see some familiar locations in the images and behind the scenes video as several segments of the USA Network hit TV show “Burn Notice” were filmed there, Sailing Dock as well as a Private Island.
Our 10 hour day included 11 creatives all collaborating to make this project a success. I hope you enjoy the fashion photographs and Behind the Scenes video soon to be released.

When commissioning a photographer, take the time to look at their portfolio, discuss with them exactly what you or the agency requires and for the Love of God, do your due diligence before wasting your money.
If you think (man or woman) you can do your own hair & makeup; SLAP YOURSELF once for being ignorant and twice for being so damn cheap! (Did I say that?… YES! YES I DID…) A hair & makeup artist on location during your session will not only provide you with a better photographic appearance but will also provide different hair do’s and fashion styling which ultimately will benefit you by providing a greater number of looks to proof through once your session is over.

Recently I had the absolute pleasure to work with a great model with tons of spark and a good head on her shoulders. Above you can see a few of the snaps made during this studio session.
Modeling Portfolio Photography, like Head Shots or Comp Cards must depict the client in their most SALABLE light. The difference between the Portofolio, Head shots and Comp Cards is simply the number of photographs a model has to use to “get the job”, so to speak.
An easy way to look at this is simply —- The Head Shot is your Business Card; The Comp Card is your Invitation to get in the door; while your Portfolio is the eclectic representation of YOU as a model that will open the greatest number of doors and ultimately “seal the deal” with the agency or art director.
A professional photographer should not only focused on making stunning images but creating an inherent value to the product, service or client photographed.

In the age of flash and technology it’s become increasingly harder to buy a gift for that special someone that will just blow him away. Hmmm……clothes? Boring. Watches? Been done. Fancy dinner? Very nice but only if your man enjoys fine dining. Not all do so that can be risky. Vacations? Fabulous but can be pricey and once they are over all you are left with are the memories and the pictures. Pictures? Now we are onto something. Why not have some boudoir photos taken of yourself and give them to your man? Seriously! Pictures last forever and trust me, no man is going to turn down beautiful pictures of his woman. From the sensual feminine photographic period of Betty Page to the cover styles of Maxim this fact has been proven time and time again. Of course, now the question is….where do I go for something like this. Glamour shots certainly isn’t advertising this service and is it weird to go have sexy shots taken of yourself? Cristina was very cool and easy to work with. Not very much time was needed before Cristina was off hitting pose after pose!! After 30 minutes to warm up all images forward were strong and very usable! Cristina picked her favorite two and I massaged them into 8×10 headshots and had them professional reproduced on high-end photographic paper fit to be given to any agency or casting call.
Fabiola of Fairytale Beauty, LLC, my infamous wife ( LOL ) provided all hair and makeup for this shoot. Fabiola specializes in Professional Bridal Hair & Makeup Services in South Florida but as a team, Fabiola and myself work on many projects together: As indicated in the past they include actor head-shots; celebrity headshots; male & female model headshots along with fashion; commercial; wedding photography; catalog; gala events; boudoir sessions and much much more. For over 15 years we have been honing our skills and hope it shows in our work.
It has always been my goal to positively change the lives of all I photograph. I put 110% of my heart and soul into each and every image. As I always say, the devils in the details and I truly believe this to be the case!

The methods have changed over time but the time to create a work of art has not. So many things in photography seem easier now with the advent of digital. The truth be told, it is NOT! I will leave it at that and may blog about this in the near future.
